OK what has been going on with my music likes and experiences?  Who the heck knows most of the time!!!  I have gotten the chance to see a few local bands and think seriously on some music in my collection and this is pretty much what I have come up with tonight:

Red 11 - Local Band

Ok, let me start by saying that I own their demo CD, I have seen them play live at The Chance and these guys surprised the hell out of me!!!

It is not often that I let a LOCAL band impress me all that much.  Ok.. well sometimes I am more open than I like to admit, but still, these guys just kind of blew my socks off, so let me tell you all about it.

Their music is fun music. It is your basic Beastie boys vs. LFO vs. limp bizkit and all the others.  It has a little bit of everything, so much so that I really can't label it, I even got a little bit of Green Day flavor in there!!!  They definitely have most of the image formula to become a successful band.  They have the pretty boy front-man, who also has a great sense of humor, treats his fans well, and is all around a good natured person as a matter of fact they are ALL good natured guys, DON'T EVER LOSE THAT.  They have the brooding one, the silly one, the quiet one, the prankster etc.  They got a marketable formula, women will be falling at their feet and if they get the women, the men follow (it's genetic right?).

My criticism, well, one of them needs to find his niche in the image, maybe he can be the dirty one?  Ida know.  They also need to not be afraid of their own voices.  The CD is great, it is a lot of fun, but sometimes, they go a little flat.  We all are afraid of our own shadows sometimes!  They may do well to get some voice lessons to give them more confidence in their range and to learn how to scream and growl without ruing their voices.  But as a whole, for a couple of young guys doing their thing, they rock!

I can already tell you which song I would release as a first single, well if it were me up there.  I will include an MP3 link to it in a few days (forgot to bring the CD in from the car!).

They do have it, they are young, full of energy, hopes, and a love for what they are doing, they got it, and I think they are going to keep it too.  Maybe one day I can say.. hey.. I know those guys up there on MTV... yeah.. I think I will be saying that one day about Red 11.

See if you can catch them locally for a real treat and tell them Lesdemona sent you!

The Eels - National

Have you ever been to a movie and heard a great song on the soundtrack from a band you never friggin heard of.  And then for some unknown reason you find yourself tracking down this band and everything they have ever done?  Well that is how I found The Eels.  If you remember that song in the movie  Road Trip that goes something like "Goddamn right it's a beautiful day.. uhuh..."  Then you have heard The Eels before!

This band is pretty simple, they usually have really depressing lyrics to really upbeat music.  You can sit back have some Country Time Lemonade, relax to what seems like Country Time Lemonade music until you realize he is singing about elephants in cages and about poor men wearing newspaper for pants.  The music is creative genius!!!!

My fav new song by them is called SoulJacker pt. 1.  Check it out, click this picture below.
